Importing Data From FM6 To FM3

Importing Data From FM6 To FM3

Is there a way to import the data from a FM5 or FM6 file to a FM3 or
FM4 file. I have found that by exporting the file as tab separated
text it creates a file, but FM2 can¹t even see the file unless I change
the file name to .txt. FM5 has many export options, but none can be
seen in FM3 or FM4, even when you select All Files. Seems you have to
change the file type to .txt to even see it. But when you do that, the
container fields seem to mess up the import order, and you have to drag
each one to the proper location, which is a bear when many are empty or
there are many fields. I figured that it would be easier, if the first
record contained the filed names, and you can create a script to
attempt to put them there, but the txt is refused naturally, but calc
fields, etc.

There must be an easier way to do this?

Denny,

What if you were to create a record and enter the field names in it. Sort
the database so that becomes the first row before you export.

When you go to import the data, you can change it to "matching field names"

Why not just use one of the Export file formats that include the field
names. I usually use the Merge for this.

Export as type .mer, but name it .txt - FM3 will see it, and the first row
is the field names is Comma Separated file.
