Restarting milter and sendmail

Restarting milter and sendmail

Hi,

Is it necessary to restart sendmail after restarting a milter? For a
while I've been able to restart my milter without restarting sendmail
and things would work fine. My milter communicates with sendmail
through a unix domain socket and will remove any existing sockets on
startup. Recently, however, I restarted the milter while sendmail was
busy processing mail on several open connections. I noticed my milter
acting strange and returning incorrect message sizes and data. I tried
restarting the milter again by itself but it was still acting strange.
Finally, I restarted the sendmail and that seemed to fix things. I'm
wondering if its required to restart sendmail everytime you restart
the milter, or if its optional and there's a bug in my program.

Regards,
-Kai

It's been my experience that it's best to (re)start Sendmail after
(re)starting a milter.
