Sendmail can receive from Verizon just fine. But when sending to Verizon it
bombs, the queue log shows:

end? ANy help would be appreciated............

You have more luck than I have, I get the following message when telnetting:

$ telnet relay.verizon.net
Trying 206.46.232.11...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host

Hadn't cared about that, if not my brother in law had switched to verizon.

Ops, telnetted the wrong port, I get only timeout on port 25, I guess they use
wrapper to "deny outside usa ip's as they may spam ous" while most of the spam
is domestic.

I've started getting dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Bad file number errors
sending to verizon.net. Started a couple days ago. Some messages seem to
go through, others don't, and I'm sending to multiple recipients and all
are affected. Once a message is stopped, though, it seems never to go
through. It's making a mess of my mail lists :-)

Yes. This is what their usual screwup looks like.

If they try to connect back to an mx host for dancker.com, would
they get the same long long pause that I got just now? I gave up
when it was longer than 60 seconds. This is why they give you a
temp fail. They want to probe your address.

$ host -t mx dancker.com
dancker.com mail is handled (pri=20) by ml9scan.dancker.com
dancker.com mail is handled (pri=10) by ml9scan2.dancker.com
$ telnet ml9scan.dancker.com 25
Trying 12.182.167.2...
Connected to ml9scan.dancker.com (12.182.167.2).
Escape character is '^]'.

No, I do not think anyone knows how to get them to fix their broken
mail system. They've been doing this for quite a while and they seem
to like it. I have to speculate because mail to postmaster is never
answered.

I am not sure as to where the long pause is coming from. The RedHat box
running sendmail is behind a PIX which forwards smtp to that machine. The
PIX has the 'no fixup protocol smtp 25' set to have not mess with that
issue. Any thoughts as to why there is a long pause?

I get the error logged for the ....did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during
connection to MTA from multiple Verizon servers, could this have something
do with it?

Oh and for the record submitted a request to their white-list submission as
both a customer and ISP does not help or correct the issue.
