host file

host file

Hi,
I am new to IIS, I dont have DNS but i read in the book that a host file can
be created and the other pcs can acces the server by name rather by the IP
address. how can it be done

On each PC, open the hosts file (located in
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc directory) in notepad and on a blank
line enter the IP address followed by at least one space and then the name
you want to use. If i remember correctly, there also has to be one blank
line at the end. Then save the file.

thanks, but do i have to save the file at my pc or the pcs tried to look at
my website

You must edit the file on _each_ PC that want to use your name to access
the website.
