Editable checkboxes in datalist.

I want to have checkboxes in my datalist that correspond to an status
of a record. I'd like to be able to just click on the checkbox to
switch the status of the row on/off quickly, without putting the
datalist in edit mode first.
Is this possible ? If so, how ? Any sample is very welcome.
