HTTP 500 Internal server error

Sorry if I'm the millionth guy to ask this question, but if IIS is
installed, and TaskManager shows inetinfo.exe running, and Control
Panel, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services appears to
indicate that IIS V5.1 is "OK", and Norton NIS has "personal firewall"
disabled, but http://localhost and http://127.0.0.1 both report "The
page cannot be displayed" followed by "HTTP 500 Internal server
error", what is wrong? WinXP SP2. Thanks.

In internet explorer go to tools-internet options-advanced and uncheck "show
friendly http error message" from the browsing menu. Try reload and post the
error.

"Server Application Error"

"The server has encountered an error while loading an application
during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log
for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator
for assistance."

The system event log shows pairs of DCOM Error and W3SVC Warning for
each attempt to http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1.

The DCOM Error reads: "DCOM got error 'Logon failure: unknown user
name or bad password.' and was unable to logon .\WAM_name in order to
run the server; {3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1}."

The W3SVC Warning reads: "The server failed to load application '/LM/
W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was 'The server process could not be started
because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and
password.'

Thanks.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Component Services, Computers, My
Computer, COM+ Applications, right click IIS Out-of-Process Pooled
Applications, Identity, change password to current password for
IWAM_xxx. What a totally ridiculous waste of time.
