A problem with page breaks

A problem with page breaks

In Filemaker Pro 8 and 9 Advanced, I have a columnar report to track
hours for each week of production for each job we fabricate. A job may
take anywhere from one week to ten weeks to finish so a sub summary
part provides totals for each job when the report is sorted by job and
week ending.

Depending on how many weeks comprise each job, a columnar report page
may have from three to eight jobs with their corresponding weeks
listed. My problem is, sometimes, part of a job will begin on one page
and continue on the next page or all weeks of a job may end up on one
page while just their sub summary may end up by itself at the top of
the next page. I thought that by un-checking "Allow part to break
across page boundaries" would do the trick but it doesn't. How do I
get the report to break only after a sub summary and not in the
middle?

The "Allow part to break across page boundaries" does exactly that - it
allows / disallows the Layout Part to break across a page break, not
records, summaries, etc.

If I understand correctly, tere's no way you're going to get all the
Jobs and the sub-summary on the same page. It's a physical limitation
of the page size - if it won't fit on one page, then it won't fit on
one page. There's little you can do about it other than make the fonts
smaller and adjust any vertical gaps in the Layout.

You can use the "Page break before each occurrence" or "Page break
after every X occurrences" option to force a page break after each
sub-summary (ie. start a new page before the next set of Job records).
