url rewrite on userIds

am 18.08.2007 13:42:34 von Suhaib Ahmad

Hello,

For my website i want to implement url rewriting. I'm unable to create
a RewriteRule

which when given url: http://myUser.domain.com/
convert it to http://www.domain.com/action?id=myUser

Thanks,
Suhaib.

What is the purpose of altering the hostname? Are you proxying the
resulting URL, or perhaps confusing mod_rewrite's capabilities?

Eh, wouldnt it just be better to use a vHost that redirects to the
proper place? it wouldnt be hard to write a script that does basically
this:

echo "This page Has been mobbed. please wait while we transfer you..."
header("location", "http://www.mydomain.com/action?id=" . [code Here to
split out the user id]);

Yes I want to hide the end URL from the user...so that user can only see

myUser.domain.com....

which for server rewritten into

domain.com/action?id=myUser
