I"m very frustrated and need help

I"m very frustrated and need help

am 27.01.2008 22:09:01 von obasanla

I have a web site (www.schoenstatt-la.com) that I've been updating. I have
so many errors and can't figure out what's wrong. I use FP 2002. Here's an
example from my "links" page when I looked at it in "Preview":

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 20
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL:
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Local%20Settings /Temporary%20Internet%20Files/Content.IE5/0XG01UID/CAH5TRGL. htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

What are they talking about? How do I find line 20? I have a page border
with a title, subtitle, and navigation bar. Then I have an introductory
sentence, then a table with bullets. How do I count the lines to find where
the error is?

I wanted to publish just one updated page after I made the changes and now I
see a lot of pages with "conflicts" next to the name of the pages. How do I
find out what these "conflicts" are?

I took a class on this about three/four years ago and created this site but
was never taught how to resolve conflicts. I've updated it a couple of time
since and haven't had any problems, but now! ....

Does anyone live in Birmingham, Ala, who could help?

That is telling you there's a javascript error.
The file path to temporary internet files is because when you preview in the browser,
the browser opens a copy of the page in cache files just like any other web page.

Does the page use javascript in any form, or use an external .js file?
Is it using mouseovers and mouseouts or other button swapping script.

The line 20 it's referring to is the 20th line of script, where ever it may be.

Can you link to a "published" page that's showing this error?

You need to send a link to the page that is causing problems. I went to
your website but didn't find any errors.

Can you post the page somewhere on a temporary website like yahoo and
send us a link to it?

I am based in London, UK if this is of any help :)

Hope this helps.

HOw do I do that? Anonymous suggested I upload it to Yahoo, but I couldn't
get to the page probably because I'm linked to the web page. I don't have it
as a separate file for some reason. I may try to recreate the page. Here's
the HTML on the page if that will help.

This page (Link) has the same error message except that it said
Line 2
Char: 1
Error: Invalid character
Code: 0
URL
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Local%20Settings /Temporary%20Internet%20Files/Content.IE5/0KS7MEKQ/[1].htm

I redid the other page with the scrip error and was able to upload it with
no errors.

Ok, the script error is in the file:
script language="JavaScript1.2" fptype="dynamicoutline" src="outline.js">

Re: I"m very frustrated and need help

Thank you, Steve, but one last question. How do I find this file?

I finally ended up redoing the pages and was able to upload everything, but
I had to take out my links using the outline.js file which is in three other
pages. What I did was to rebuild the page, save, go to "Publish" and see if
there was a check mark next to the page I was working on. I did it a little
at a time to ensure that there were no problems. Then I erased the old page
completely.

I could just let everything go as is, but I am not learning how to correct
errors by doing that. At this point, I'd like to just be able to know how to
find files that don't show up. I had bookmarks that I wanted to delete and I
did it the hard way. Erased everything and retyped it!! Sometimes I
couldn't delete hyperlinks because there was one extra space that wasn't
highlighted before or after the title, so I couldn't get the "remove
hyperlink" button. Then sometimes I would try different combinations and had
to end up erasing and retyping again!

I know I need to just jump in and try to figure things out, but when I don't
know where to jump from, it makes it difficult.

Thanks so much for your help, though. If you were here, I could buy you
lunch!!!

According to the source link in the page, it has to be in your website, in the same folder as the page using
it.
