Files Missing from Windows Menu

Files Missing from Windows Menu

I have recently finished a conversion from FM 5.5 files to FM 9 files.
In using the newly converted solution, I'm running into a problem
whereby
when opening the startup file, various other files are opened
(some open completely via script, others open as hidden to resolve
relationships etc.).

I'll refer to those files as the 'group solution'.
Once logged into the group solution, I'll open up a single, unrelated
file,
then switch back to one of the files from the group solution via the
Window menu.

After this has been done, the single, unrelated file is no longer
appearing in the Window menu...
however... should I cascade the windows, the file is still present.

Any ideas what could cause this type of behaviour??

Thanks in advance

It is a bug that has existed in Windows since FileMaker 7. From an
interface perspective, you probably should not have users rely on the
Windows menu for navigation, as it just isn't very convenient, even when
it works properly.

As to what cause the window to disappear from the Windows menu, I have
not been able to nail that down. I'm pretty sure it has something to do
with a sequence of 'zoom to fit', 'minimize' and 'select window'
steps...but it never seems consistent when it happens.

You have already discovered that the window really is there if you
cascade or minimize the other windows on top of it. Let's hope
FileMaker gets it fixed in the next version.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Fortunately,
I was not the one who had designed the layouts in such a fashion as to
force the end-user to rely upon using the Window menu.
Unfortunately though,
I am the one who had to convert such a project.

Any chance you have a link to a page that describes this as being a
"known issue" ??

Cheers

No, but I can assure you that FileMaker is aware of the issue, that they
have had similar reports from a number of developers.
