FMP 8.5 and Leopard export issue

I just recently ran into this issue, maybe some of you are aware of it
already. It pertains only to Macs running OS X Leopard. Apparently
Mac versions of FMP prior to version 9 hang when trying to export data
to MS Excel format. It'll export to any format but XLS. FileMaker
says this is an incompatibility between FMP and Leopard which doesn't
exist in version 9. They finally came out with a fix for it, so if
anyone has run into this it can be solved. Use the link below for an
