Error 80042109 on sending mails

am 08.04.2008 21:18:09 von Ingo Stiller

Hi Freaks

For a few weeks, I couldn't send emails :-(
The error message is "Error 80042109 Outlook is unable to connect to
your outgoing SMTP server"

So I did ask GMX, G-DATA, my internet provider, ... but no one can
tell what's going on.
GMX told me to switch of the (Window) firewall, no result.

Then I start the (windows) firewall logfile and got this:

Aha, there are DROPs
Try to open the port 587: no connection at all

Does anyone do have any idea what's going on?

BTW 1: I did try Thunderbird: Same problem
BTW 2: OS Windows XP Pro SP2

regards
Ingo

Hm... this is comp.security.firewalls. You know, security and Outlook are
about mutually exlusive...

G-DATA as in "G-Data Internet Security"? Then you have already found your
problem and just denied it to yourself.

The Windows Firewall in XP doesn't do outbound filtering, and sending
mail doesn't require inbound connections, so the firewall should be no
problem at all.

Does GMX really do submission (port 587/tcp)? Unless they do you'd have
to send your mail to the default SMTP port (25/tcp).

The problem is rather the pseudo firewall from G-DATA. You know, the
horribly broken stuff.

Yes, definitely.
