Which version of FrontPage to buy?

Which version of FrontPage to buy?

am 22.04.2008 15:43:05 von Gabriel

I developed my local club's website on my work laptop using FrontPage 2002 .

My laptop has now given up the ghost; and I need to buy a new software
license. (I'm retired so no longer have access to my work's software)

Questions:
- do I buy FrontPage 2002 again (it doesn't seem to be available thru many
retail sites) or would I be better buying FP 2003 instead?
- If I buy FP2003, will I be able to sucessfully download my web site source
files to it from the existing host site?
- I'm prepared to buy MS Expressions to upgrade the site at some point in
the future; but my current priority is to be able to maintain the current
site. Does anyone know if Microsoft will discount MS Expressions where a
current license for FP 2003 is held?

Thanks in anticipation ...

You may or may not be able to find any FP 2003, since it has been
discontinued. And, the same with FP2002. You might try Ebay, but, as
always, be very wary of buying software from there.

Yes, there is an "upgrade" price for EW if you have a previous version of
FP.

Thanks Tom,
Yes, I understand that FP has in principle been discontinued, but I noticed
there's a (UK) Microsoft product information page for FP2003:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/office/frontpage/howtobuy/defaul t.mspx

but no similar page for FP2002, which lead me to think that FP2003 may be
regarded by MS as the remaining benchmark. Perhaps I read to much into this,
but I also noticed that I can find a number of UK sites still selling FP2003,
but nowhere (other than eBay) is FP2002 sold. To be expected I guess ...

Any thoughts on my other question please: if I buy FP2003, do you think I
will be able to successfully recover my (FP2002) source files from my server?
I'm assuming I can, but with no experience of FP2003 I'd like some
re-assurance from someone who knows. I don't want to dig myself into a bigger
hole than I'm already in!

Thanks for your help.

FP2003 supports everything that FP2002 supported, so you shouldn't have any issue with opening your
live site on the live/remote server, as long as the server has the FP2000 or FP2002 extensions
installed and functioning correctly.
