I am running Active State Perl 5.10.1 on a Windows Server 2008 64 bit
platform.

I need to install a module in the Winnipeg repository for Perl 5.10
(Net:FTPSSL). However when I add the Winnipeg repository to PPM's
repository list, the number of packages available from it is listed as
zero. (At least I assume that's what the "# Pkgs" column means in the
PPRM Preferences/Repositories tab). The status messages indicate that
the Winnipeg packlist is downloaded OK.

I even tried downloading the XML package list from the Winnipeg site and
pointing PPM at the local copy of it. Still the number of packages comes
up as zero.

Can anybody suggest what I am doing wrong? Should I be trying to use a
64 bit specific repository?

Ashley

The uwinnipeg repository contains only 32-bit modules.

=20

The only repositories with 64-bit Windows modules that I am aware of are =
ActiveState, wxPerl, and Sisyphusion (5.12 only).

Yes, I have noted that there is a later version available on CPAN that
could be installed manually. Unfortunately the availability of a C
complier to attempt manual installs always seem to be a stumbling block,
and I must confess that I don't really have any experience at manual
installs either. So I am going to keep my fingers crossed and see if a
32 bit install will work before going down that path.

=20

But thanks for the heads up.

Just be aware that the Net::FTPSSL module is a Pure Perl module. So you
could probably download the latest & greatest (v0.17) from CPAN and
install it manually if getting it through the 32-bit PPM doesn't work
for your 64-bit system.

=20

But just be sure to get the 64-bit dependencies before you try to
install it via the 32 bit repository. Some of the dependencies involve
compiled code. (IO::Socket::SSL, Net::SSLeay::Handle) So in these
cases 32-bit versions won't work for you in your 64 bit environment.

Hi Jan,

=20

Yes thanks for that confirmation.=20

=20

I actually just tried installing the 32 bit version of Perl 5.10 and
that now shows the FTPSSL package I need as being available. I guess
I'll have to install the 32 bit version of Perl and this module in the
64 bit environment and hope that it still works.

Thanks,

Ashley

The uwinnipeg repository contains only 32-bit modules.

=20

The only repositories with 64-bit Windows modules that I am aware of are
ActiveState, wxPerl, and Sisyphusion (5.12 only).

Ashley

Yes, I have noted that there is a later version available on CPAN that =
could be installed manually. Unfortunately the availability of a C =
complier to attempt manual installs always seem to be a stumbling block, =
and I must confess that I donâ€=99t really have any experience at =

Just be aware that the Net::FTPSSL module is a Pure Perl module. So you =
could probably download the latest & greatest (v0.17) from CPAN and =
install it manually if getting it through the 32-bit PPM doesnâ€=99t =
work for your 64-bit system.

=20

But just be sure to get the 64-bit dependencies before you try to =
install it via the 32 bit repository. Some of the dependencies involve =
compiled code. (IO::Socket::SSL, Net::SSLeay::Handle) So in these =
cases 32-bit versions wonâ€=99t work for you in your 64 bit =
environment.

I am running Active State Perl 5.10.1 on a Windows Server 2008 64 bit =
platform.

I need to install a module in the Winnipeg repository for Perl 5.10 =
(Net:FTPSSL). However when I add the Winnipeg repository to =
PPMâ€=99s repository list, the number of packages available from it =
is listed as zero. (At least I assume thatâ€=99s what the â€=9C# =

The status messages indicate that the Winnipeg packlist is downloaded =
OK.

I even tried downloading the XML package list from the Winnipeg site and =
pointing PPM at the local copy of it. Still the number of packages comes =

Can anybody suggest what I am doing wrong? Should I be trying to use a =
