Default Web Site Disappeared from IIS 5.1

Default Web Site Disappeared from IIS 5.1

am 18.10.2004 16:07:04 von DannySikora

In IIS 5.1, running Windows XP Pro...

...my default website disappeared from IIS Manager. I see nothing in the
"Web Sites" Folder.

I can still browse the website through the local host. I can still open my
local web application with visual studio .NET. I can also still restart the
web publishing service, through the "Services" manager, but not through IIS.

This happened a couple days ago, and "they" took away my administrative
rights on my local machine like a month ago, my account has since been in the
Debugger Users group. That is the only thing that I can think of that
actually changed on my machine, but I wouldn't think that would matter. Any
suggestions or advice?

Thanks,

Hello,
If you do not have Administrative privileges then thats possibly why you
are unable to see/administer the sites in IIS. Can you log in with an
Administrative account to confirm this?
To workaround this issue, you can have an Administrator add you as a web
site operator. For more information on this:

Alternatively, you can have the Administrator give you permissions to
metabase keys (in which case you will be using an unsupported configuration
of IIS) using tools like MetaAcl or Metabase explorer.

You were correct about the admin rights, that is what I suspected. However,
running IIS under Windows XP Pro, does not have an operators tab under the
default web site to create a web site operators group.

Hello,
Yes, that option is available on IIS4 and IIS5 only. You would then need to
use MetaACL or Metabase explorer. Be sure to back up your IIS metabase
before modifying any Metabase ACLs.
