kernel recompiling
am 14.05.2003 17:14:06 von Subhash Bhushan
Hi everybody,
I have done some linux kernel (2.4.x) recompilations many times (about
4-5), but always there were problems or some sort of defects in it. I also
had to spend lots of time, in figuring out which option highlights or
disables other options.
So, I was hoping if I could find ready-made configuration files on the
net. Also, if I could find configuration information and new
experimentations. Is there any site for that?
Thanks in advance,
Subhash Bhushan.

.... with regard the time, it's a 'great' investment, and time well spent.
a 'ready-made' ./.config is NOT going to be much help, UNLESS it
suits your (a) hardware, and (b) intended use. however, if you found
one, the only real benefit would be a 'short-term' easy fix ...

Hi All,
We are porting our Network Management application from Linux 7.2 to
Linux 8. The application has many 3rd party software like tomcat 4.1.24,
sybase 8, jdk1.4.1 , jakarata oro.
Our assumption is that we will need to download jdk1.4.1 for Linxu 8 ?
We would like to know which other tools need a fresh download which are
Linux 8 compatible.
Will the same 3rd party sofware used for Linux 7.3 work for Linux 8 also
?
Will appreciate any help on this.
Thanks in Advance,
Sarika

If I am not wrong you are talking about Red Hat Linux versions

There is no difference of jdk1.4.1 for both versions

Actually, Blackdown offers gcc2.95 and gcc3.2 builds. Either is fine for
your "Linux 8" (redhat), the gcc3.2 build won't work for an 'out of the
box'
Redhat 7.2 install.
Sun's VM will work just fine on either as stated by Murali above. .
