Hello all,

use to administer my database server. I am not an expert so I am looking for
a GUI interface that is easy to use. So that I can create users and
databases without any problems.

SQLyog is really good. The free version works well and is stable. =20

When you wanna deal with users and hosts, MySQL Admnistrator is the
best I could find, but when it comes to table creation and management,
MySQL Query Browser uses an interface that is pretty similar to
DBDesigner, from fabForce, that is a graphic interface for designing
databases that syncro with MySQL servers. I just love it. It has a
full set of features for visual administration of data and structure.

I tried using Mysql Administrator, but I could not find any place on how to
create or drop databases. Do I do all those at the command line?

I looked and looked, but I could not create or drop databases and I do not
remember being able to create users either.

Am I not looking in the right places?

The "Catalogs" option allows you to work with databases and tables,
creating, dropping ot editting them. The "User Administration"
interface allows you to specify users, hosts and their privileges.

You can do all this in SQLyog.

I maintain my ISP and my local server with it. No
problems at all :)

I really stick with DBDesigner 4. But I guess its because I really
LOVE open source software, its kinda strange for me using a program
with closed source to access the best open source database ever ;)

And just to give a good reason (besides my source code religion),
these are some features that if I'm not mistaken lack on the free
version of SQLyog and are present on DbDesginer 4. For free. Ah, I
almost forgot, the visual guide for creating and managin FKs and
relations seems to be more "visual" on DBDesigner.

# Data Synchronization
# Schema Synchronization
# ODBC Import

Free will is what makes humans discuss and evolve, not that we'll get
to an common point of view, ever, but at least we try. ;)

Re: PHPMYADMIN vs MYSQL ADMINISTRATOR

Do any of the programs mentioned on this thread allow
you to publish a LOCAL database to the Internet?
Someone just gave me free hosting for one of my
database-driven websites, but they don't have a
control panel or online phpMyAdmin installation. So
I'm trying to figure out how to get my database
online.

Thanks.

There's always

localmachine>mysqldump someDb > dbToUpload.sql
ftp local file to server
server> mysql < dbToUpload.sql

You can actually do it all in one step if you take a look at the
mysqldump syntax, but that should get you started.

If you know your server name and port, you can use either ODBC or
direct connection using DBDesigner to:

1) Connect and reverse engineer a remote database to build a schema.
2) Create your schema locally and syncro it with a remote database.
3) Create your schema, syncro it with a local database, test it, and
then syncro it with your remote host.

Best regards,

SQLyog at www.webyog.com does it exactly.

Perticularly interesting feature is Database Sync
Tool.
