MySQL / Win 98 Crashes

If someone knows of a post that covers this, please let me know as I have
been all over the docs and the mailing list but can't seem to solve my
problem.
I recently installed mysql, latest binary version on Win98, SE and was
successful in connecting and sending queries to the server from both the
localhost machine and a client on the network (using php).
Then the sever started to crash and required a reboot of the system to start
working again. I uninstalled everything and then loaded an older version of
3.23.57 and again, I was able to connect to the server and issue queries
from both the localhost machine and a client on the network.
Unfortunately, the same problems occur. After a fresh reboot and about
20-30 mins of running queries, the server crashes. Sometimes I am able to
restart the sever using mysqld and sometimes I cannot and must reboot the
server box. Sometimes I cannot connect from the client but I can command
line the server from the server box, suggesting a network issue.
Then, prior to sending this email, I uninstalled everything (Apache, php,
mysql) and installed an old version of phpTriad, which I have never had a
problem with. phpTriad loaded apache 1.3.23, php 4.0, mysql 3.23.49. I
then upgraded php to 4.3.10. Started up and everything running smooth for
about an hour then mysql crashed.
Rebooting the server machine allows me to once again connect before the
problems start occurring again. Could this be a hardware problem?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

It doesn't sound like it, but I've seen weirder things.
Will the computer run other programs other than MySQL? Try installing
something like SETI@Home and let it run for a few hours, that will run
your processor hard and if any errors occur, it will definitely be
during then.
WHen you say 'crashed' do you mean like an illegal operation or
something like that?
