DBD:mysql , mysql4 and perl5.8

I found DBD-mysql at Randy Kobes site, uwinnipeg.ca and installed it for
win2k pro.. However, I can confirm for Randy that this version of DBD:mysql
won't work for mysql 4. Probably because as he says this was compiled
against mysql3.

Has anybody successfully compiled DBD:mysql against mysql4 and perl5.8. for
win2k?
Or point me to where I can find the source to build it myself? As I
understand it there is no need to recompile one of the standard server
binaries from mysql AB, only the client libraries. Anything I am missing
here?

Curious as to what errors you might be getting.

I am running W2K Server with MySQL Version 4.0.7 and PERL 5.8 and latest
DBD-mysql with apparent success.

C:/Perl/site/lib/auto/DBD/mysql/

That worked. Now I wondering where the magic is. The perl path above must
be picked up by the run-all-tests script before the libmySQL.dll which is in
the path at
c:\winnt\system32 .

This brings up another question. Now I have several libmySQL.dll 's
scattered about the machine.

built mysql-max server
from source 4.0.10 gamma from the
mysql.com
site.

Questions:
1. Which version of libmySQL.dll is the run-all-tests test-suite testing?
I suppose the version 3 .dll which is in the Perl path. Are these tests
vaild for version 4?
2. Should another test-suite be developed for mysql4?
3. Which libmySQL.dll is actually used when the server is running? The
only directive I have in the my.ini file about which server to run is
c:\myql\bin\mysqld-maz-nt.exe
