mysql_init error message when connecting to a database

I have installed Perl 5.8.0 on a Solaris box running Solaris 9. I have installed DBI and DBD without any problems. However when I try to run a PERL script that connects to my database I get the following. I have checked all the web sites I could find but without success.

Can anyone help!!
