Searching for a mailbox manipulation program.

Searching for a mailbox manipulation program.

Is there a program around which will enable me to do things like this
with mailboxes:

(i) Sort the contents of a mailbox by date, or author, or suchlike?

(ii) Extract mailing list articles to their respective mailboxes? I
often get two or three copies of such articles, cross-posted to two
different lists with sometimes a personal copy. It's tedious to have to
separate them out by hand.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Email: aacm@muuc.dee; to decode, wherever there is a repeated letter
(like "aa"), remove half of them (leaving, say, "a").
