Importing mh or sendmail aliases into evolution contact list?

How does one import sendmail or mh aliases into an evolution contact list?

I found the evolution address book in
~/.evolution/addressbook/local/system/ and
..../addressbook.db.summary. The contents of both are gibberish.

To refresh your memory, the format for a basic entry in either an mh or
sendmail alias file is "alias-name: e-mail-address". The "e-mail-address"
part can be another alias, a comma-separated list, or fancier stuff like a
file name for a list, or a pipe.

An e-mail reply would help me most, because my boss doesn't like me to
spend a lot of time searching news groups, but post, too, to get the
answer into the archives.
