_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe missing & problems!!!
am 06.05.2005 13:37:48 von Richard White
I have TWO problems:-
1. fpadmcgi.exe is missing from the server side.
--------------------------------------------
I have a Unix host (provided by a hosting service provider), and I am expecting to find
http://myservername.co.uk/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe exists - but it does not.
It definitely *USED* to exist there, as I had it bookmarked. However, the host provider confirms
that the fpadmcgi.exe is not (ie. no longer) implement on his sites by the MS Frontpage server
extensions installation.
So where is this file? Has it been superceded by something else? How am I supposed to manage the
server side installation?
2. Error when using fpadmcgi.exe
-----------------------------
I have uploaded fpadmcgi.exe manually (by FTP) to the _vti_bin/_vti_adm/ folder on the server.
When in Frontpage I try to maintain this site (eg. Tools->Server->Permissions) I get the following
error:-
"Server Error: Unknown web server type " ". On Windows platforms, Microsoft Internet Information
Server is supported. On UNIX platforms, Apache with the Microsoft FrontPage patch is supported."
eg. http://myservername.co.uk/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe?pag e=security.htm
is giving the above error.
Again ....... why/what?? Solution???
Many thanks
Richard

Not really ... it doesn't answer my query. What I want to know is with fpadmcgi.exe missing what do
I do?
Likewise, even tieh fpadmcgi.exe manually, as things still aren't working, what do I do?
I need to do this today (well yesterday actually) so I just need answers .... I don't have time to
read a book on Frontpage. Also, please remember I have no control over the host set-up. The host
FP extension installation is a "given" and I have no options If it doesn't install fpadmcgi.exe any
more, then it doesn't ... and so what do I do?
Kind regards,
Richard

You can't do anything about putting it on your hosts server
Find another host that knows how to install the FP SE correctly
PS
If you don't have time to help yourself, others don't have time to help you

For one thing, the file you uploaded is not compatible with Apache / UNIX.
You need the version written for Apache / UNIX by RTR Software, www.rtr.com as they are who write
the extensions for Apache / UNIX servers.
They also have a forum you can post questions too.

The FP2002 Server Extensions for UNIX never place the *exe's in your
local directory. They use mod_frontpage and fpexe to call them. You
uploaded a Windows tool which will not work on the UNIX apache site.
What was the original error you received when you attempted to to
locate the page?
