mysql_init error message when connecting to a database

I have installed Perl 5.8.0 on a Solaris box running Solaris 9. I have installed DBI and DBD without any problems. However when I try to run a PERL script that connects to my database I get the following. I have checked all the web sites I could find but without success.

Can anyone help!!

ld.so.1: /usr/local/bin/perl: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0/sun4-solaris/auto/DBD/m ysql/mysql.so: symbol mysql_init: referenced symbol not found
