Windows mail server recommendation

Windows mail server recommendation

am 30.05.2005 12:19:07 von Sven Jacobs

Hi!

I'm looking for a preferably free (=freeware or OpenSource) mail server for
Windows. The mail server should be flexible enough so that an event can be
caught and processed when a mail has been received. For example an
executable should be started, attached the mail, or the server should be
controllable via an API or scripting language. I need to analyze mails with
another application after they've arrived at the mail server.

Thanks for any hint!

You won't like my answer: Ditch Windows and go with Linux. Any of
the Big 4 free MTAs (Sendmail, Postfix, Qmail, Exim) can do this easily
and reliably.

Yeah, I would use Linux right away but the operating system was not my
choice :-(

Or mine ....

http://www.floatingbear.ca/botdocs/ (previously -
http://www.abutchartconsulting.com/botdocs/ )

It's written in VB6 and the source code could be made available for a
reasonable price

So install Cygwin [1] and run exim [2]. Problem solved. There are also
many other mail-related Cygwin packages.

The mercury[1] mailer has good reputation (try Google for more
information). It is Native Windows binary.

Then there is Cygwin[2] + Exim4[3], which gives all the power that are
possible. Exim4 is known to be very extendable and feature rich MTA.
The cons, if you prefer to say so, are that you need Cygwin Linux like
environment, and handful of Linux experience to configure Exim.
The pros are that you 're likely to wealthy of information and
support for both.
