Receiving thousands of mail delivery failures for spam not originatingfrom us
am 30.05.2005 16:10:31 von david
Hi,
Since about 24 hours ago, we've been getting literally thousands
(14,000+) delivery failure notifications from various email systems,
which I think are being caused by spam that is perporting to come from
our domain name. I know we aren't broadcasting this spam and do not have
an open mail relay. I assume we're the victim of forged mail headers on
this spam.
This is now causing us quite a headache. Is there anything that we can
do or is it simply a case of riding this out until it stops.
Obviously, shutting down our fetchmail server is useless as our POP3
mailboxes will just fill up.
Any advice?
Thanks, David

This is a MIME GnuPG-signed message. If you see this text, it means that
your E-mail or Usenet software does not support MIME signed messages.

Yes. Switch to a real E-mail system, instead of something cobbled together
with fetchmail, POP3, duct tape, and an army of hamsters.
This way, you'll have complete control over incoming E-mail connections, and
be able to install effective mail filters that will block the junk from even
being accepted by your mail server in the first place.
