Outlook Express problem

am 08.06.2005 12:32:06 von millerdp

I use Outlook express. A few days a ago It wouldn't download the email
that was there. I fixed this by re-configuring the pop3 and smtp
settings. The problam has persisted. what should I do besides
constantly re-configuring?

Tools -> Options -> Maintenance tab -> Troubleshooting section

Checkbox Mail, then retrieve the mail from the server again.

Find a file in your "Documents and Settings" called Pop3.log and examine the
details.

What do I do with the details? I looked at them and I have no idea what
is wrong. I also deleted the password.

That says there are no messages.

Exactly but when I go to check it online there are messages. and I have
to reset my account to make it download them.

What (exactly) does "rest my account" mean? I.e. which settings do you
change from what to what?

For the time being you may want to set "Leave a copy of messages on
server" and unset "Remove from server after ... days(s)" and "Remove
from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items' in the "Advanced" settings
of your account. Also set the "Sever Timeouts" to "Long 5 minutes".

What does "reset my account" mean? If you can see mail via a web interface
but they're not available to the POP3 server, then the mail is in a
different place from where the POP3 server is looking.

Reset means I click tools>accounts>Mail tab>remove then I add the
account back.

Next time, be a little less drastic and change one setting at a time
until it works again. I.e. do not delete the account, but change it.

Well, whatever is going on, it isn't OE's fault. Your messages are
being mis-filed, or something. Just for yuks, I'd try logging in with a
username of millerdp rather than millerdp@frontiernet.net and see what
happens.

Now its even worse. Now It deletes all the current messages in the
webmail without downloading them! I tested this by sending myself an
email, restarting and opening outlook then webmail.
