duplicate emails from POP3 server on both mac and PC (outlook 2003)

Hi,

I am getting duplicate emails from my pop3 server on both my mac and my
pc (outlook 2003).

I have the "Leave a copy of messages on the server" selected for both
pc and mac. I need to for my business. I should be able to without
getting duplicates of all new mail.

The server is my own, so I can make changes but I do not know what
changes to make.

Much thanks!!!!

.... i forgot to mention, the server is not storing duplicate copies.
The mail admin online is only showing 1 copy of each email...

Look for a client setting that says something like "Download only new
messages". That probably won't be retroactive to the messages that are
already on the server, I'm not quite sure exactly how it works. The
POP3 UIDL command checks a unique value for each message, and I don't
think using that command and saving a list of those values is done
unless that option in the client is enabled.
When it is enabled your client will have to check every message on
the POP server with the UIDL command to figure out which messages
haven't been downloaded yet. The time it takes to do that will increase
as more and more messages need to be checked. Local storage will
probably start to look like a better option as the messages accumulate.

You should move messages to a different location on the server after
your POP3 client has retrieved them. Can't help you with that.

Thank you Steve! New territory for me. I did figure out a major
problem. I had set up identical virtual directories for handling the
email of 2 domains, when I fixed that the duplicates stopped.

Thank you again,
John
