The BTK Killer linked by a computer diskette?

Just curious as I was asked this question by a fellow co-worker. The
rueters story floating around today regarding the BTK killer says that
he was captured by a computer diskette (I assume a 3.5 floppy) sent to
a local newspaper. This computer diskette was said to be linked to a
computer in his church.
My question is.. How is this possible? Does the CPU save machine
specific information on a diskette when saving to or formatting?

It could have been chock-full of "deleted" documents that pointed to the
church.

No, it was an MS word document I beleive. MS office docs have all sorts
of extra info in them about the creation of the file - user account,
etc. I think in this case, what did him was that the file was tagged
with the "Company" field which lists the comany info that was entered
when word was installed. In this case, it was the name of his church.
