unicode support status, please

It's been now a while that mysql 4.1 is out, and one of the most
promising and long awaited new feature is unicode support.

Despite that, the odbc driver still does not support it, and the
information on the progress of the support is very little. Messages on
this list about the issue haven't been answered (at least the last 12
months I've looked for). There is no alpha or beta release either
(although I did see a post that an alpha release i prepared, but this
was very long ago).

If anyone reads this message and knows about the development of the odbc
driver, could he please post an update on the status of unicode support
of the odbc driver?
