Unabe to login to FPSE with root

Unabe to login to FPSE with root

I've been having a ton of problems recently with trying to get FP extensions
to work with subdomains. I think I've figured that part out, but now
something completely new has cropped up.

I can't login to my Administration Home as "root". I can login as Admin,
but that doesn't help much. I've confirmed that the root password is correct
(I can login to my site's WHM panel with it), but Administration Home isn't
accepting it (it simply brings the login prompt back up, with the password
field blank). Relatedly, I can't login to my web site (either to the site
directly, or the cPanel) with "root", either -- even though I used to be able
to.

I *can* get into my site's cPanel with the "root" login by first going to my
master WHM panel, then logging into the site's cPanel from there. Matter of
fact, that's how I was able to install FP extensions on my site and
subdomains -- trying to install extensions with the "admin" login didn't
work, as my access level wasn't high enough for certain permissions.

Another poster, on another thread, suggested that I need to set up "root" as
an administrator on my FP Extensions. How would this be accomplished? I can
access the Administration Home page with my "admin" login, but that's the
only way I can get to it, and it would seem that a lower-level account is not
going to be able to establish a higher-level account. As I said above, the
FP extensions were installed by "root" in the first place, so I don't
understand why an account for "root" wasn't established at the same time.

Any ideas why this might be happening, and how to fix it?

Can you access your server as root and run commands from the command
line? It might be easier to install the extensions using the FrontPage
tools directly instead of going thru WHM and cPanel.

You will need to know where your httpd.conf file is located.
Then you can use the /usr/local/frontpage/version5.0/bin/owsadm.exe
utility to add users, enable virtual hosts, etc. You might want to
review the Microsoft documentation
(http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/sts/2001/a ll/proddocs/en-us/admindoc/owsd02.mspx)
and the RTR FAQ (http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport/faq2002.htm) and
discussion group (http://www.rtr.com/fp2002disc).

I'll check it out -- though I'm not familiar with UNIX commands at all, so
it'd be an uphill battle, I'm afraid. I'm guessing this is not a complicated
fix, since I *was* able to login as root some months ago.

I'll try out the command line and see where that gets me. Thanks!
