I am searching an internet service which offers free email accounts
with POP3 and SMTP access. A limit of emails/day (to prevent spammers) would be ok.
I have seen some lists of such services but most of them do NOT provide SMTP access (!)
although claimed!

Google's Gmail offers this. Also check out my IMAP Service
Providers page, which is here:
I focus on IMAP, but many IMAP providers also offer POP.

Google's Gmail is free/gratis and offers both POP and SMTP. Also
check out my IMAP Service Providers page, which is here:

Are you looking for a ISP+MSP or for a MSP (Mail SP) only? If the
latter, then you might want to have a look at WEB.DE's FreeMail
(
well. (The SMTP information is a little 'hidden' (for example it's not
on the features page ("Alle FreeMail Details!")), but it's there:
"Einstellungen" -> "Zugang".)
BTW, when asking questions like this, please mention in which country
(etc.) you live, because the answer is often country/geography (sp?)
dependent. For example WEB.DE's FreeMail is not available in all
countries. From your gmx.net address I "guessed" Germany, but I/we
shouldn't have to guess c.q. jump through such hoops.
