Hello,

=20

Could you tell about Unicode support in version MyODBC 3.51.11? Does
version MyODBC 3.51.11 support Unicode in SQL query?

=20

Best regards,

Vasiliy,

Could you be more specific? Are you looking for the "W" variants of the
ODBC API? If so, then _no_, MyODBC-3.51.x does not support this, it is
being delivered with Connector/ODBC-5.0, but not until later in the
development cycle.

If you're asking whether you can use various character sets with
MyODBC-3.51.x, then the answer is _yes_, you just setup your server to
use that character set.

As I think I would be looking for "W" variants of the ODBC API.=20

I try to run INSERT SQL command with Japanese letters through MyODBC
3.51.11. Columns in my table are all in Unicode format. My default
characters set for server and client are in Unicode format too. But
After I have done this I see "???" instead of Japanese words.=20

If I use MySql Query Browser for inserting Japanese letters, I will see
it in table's columns. I have try to query them from ASP web page
through MyODBC 3.51.11, but there are "???" instead of all Japanese
words on my web pages.

Vasiliy O Stepanov

Vasiliy,

Are you _actually_ using what MySQL refers to as Unicode (i.e. utf-8 or
ucs-2 character encodings), or do you only need support for a specific
Japanese character set (i.e. SJIS, Cp932, etc)?

If it's a specific Japanese character set, then you should be okay just
setting up your server to use that character set as the default
character set (you don't say what version of the server you're using, I
will assume 4.1.something):

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/charset-server.html

and

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/charset-asian-sets.html

You can also add "SET NAMES [your-charset-name]" as the "stmt" option to
tell the server that your client (in this case ODBC) will be sending
queries in the given character set:

(for DSN-less connections, see)

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/connection-parameters.html

(for GUI setup, see, fill in "SQL command on connect")

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/dsn-on-windows.html

Yes. I use Mysql 4.1.10 and MyODBC 3.51.11-2. I have done all thing from
your letter, but still I get "?" instead of Japanese letters. I tied to
trace ODBC call

unicode_ts 3bc-a88 ENTER SQLExecDirectW=20
HSTMT 013524E0
WCHAR * 0x00E89750 [ 67] "INSERT INTO
TempWorkCenter VALUES ('sdfsdf', '??????????', 'sdfsd')"
SDWORD 67

Does it mean that MyODBC 3.51.11-2 get invalid sql statement.=20
