stripping attachments from mbox files
am 18.10.2005 22:54:22 von Mike Ballard
I'm using evolution 1.4.6; having it read from spool file and everything
gets moved to ~/evolution subdirs.
The problem is I have tons of emails with attachments (some I've sent and
others I've rec'd) - I want to keep the emails but strip out attachments I
don't want since they're using way too much disc space. I looked at
mimedefang but I don't think that's the solution.
Anyone know how I can remove attachments from mbox files without messing
up evolution's ability to index/retrieve/sort the emails? I asked on the
evolution mailing list but didn't get any useful answers...
Mike

This is a MIME GnuPG-signed message. If you see this text, it means that
your E-mail or Usenet software does not support MIME signed messages.
The Internet standard for MIME PGP messages, RFC 2015, was published in 1996.
To open this message correctly you will need to install E-mail or Usenet
software that supports modern Internet standards.

Well, you need to temporarily use a different mail client that is capable of
stripping attachments from existing messages. The only one that I know of
that should work for you, with your specific configuration and environment,
is pine.

Thunderbird apparently has an extension for this:
http://www.supportware.net/mozilla/#ext9
but I'd back up all your mail first...
I have no idea how Evolution will react if you edit the mbox files out
from under it. My guess would be very badly; Evolution's not exactly
known for stability.
