What e-mail addresses are compulsory?

What e-mail addresses are compulsory?

Hello all,

I'm setting up my own website and an e-mail service at the same domain.
I have heard say that there are some e-mail addresses/aliases I *need*
to create at my domain. Is there a RFC or other resource that specifies
these addresses?

I know that, for example, abuse@mydomain.com should exist. What other
aliases do I need to create to be compliant with the norms?

All help appreciated.

The mandatory one is "postmaster" as required per RFC 821, 2821 and 1123.

"abuse" and others are covered in RFC 2142 "MAILBOX NAMES FOR COMMON
SERVICES, ROLES AND FUNCTIONS"

"Abuse", although technically not required (AFAIK), many SMTP testing sites
like http://www.dnsreport.com will test for it. This site is useful to
testing your domain name email service to make sure you got the main and key
items right.

Thank you for your help. I looked up RFC 2142 and have set up the
appropriate aliases.

Also, thanks for pointing me to dnsreport.com. I've used dnsstuff.com
before but never discovered dnsreport.
