Enable domaintable
am 01.12.2005 23:49:39 von erik.langeland
I have sendmail running on a SuSE Professional 9 server as my mail
relay. I want to enable the domaintable file to allow us to accept mail
on alternate domains (e.g. example.ca, example.biz) and have the mail
go into our regular mailboxes (example.com) without creating an alias
for each user for each domain.
Because SuSE uses YaST and a temporary sendmail.mc file, I cannot just
edit the sendmail.mc. We have also at some point manually made changes
to sendmail.cf. Therefore, I need to find out if I can easily add the
required configuration to sendmail.cf to allow me to use domaintable.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could either tell me what I
need to do or point me to a document that will tell me.
Thank you,

The recipe below contains suggestion how to "fix" no *.mc file problem
on SuSE:
http://www.sendmail.org/faq/section5.html#5.3.2.1
Where is the sendmail.mc file on SuSE Linux?

In fact, that's not the complete picture. In addition to the two
options listed there, there is a third one which I would suggest
adding to the FAQ entry:
3. Run the script /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.sendmail manually with
the -m4 option, telling it to write the temporary .mc file to its
standard output, and capture that into a file, like this:
/sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.sendmail -m4 > your.mc.file
[I once added that option to the SuSEconfig.sendmail script on one of
my servers running SuSE release 8.0 to add that option because I felt
an urgent need for it, and was quite pleased to find that SuSE adopted
that addition shortly afterwards - in 8.2 IIRC.]

[REPOST] suggested addition to the Sendmail FAQ (was: Enable domaintable)

Seeing the suggestion I made two years ago hasn't been taken up by
anybody:

Did you send it to the email address given in the FAQ? I don't think the
FAQ maintainer reads the group...

I think that sending CC: of the (re)post would be the best.
Would it make sense to keep "development" version of the FAQ in wiki?
