Despairing of the current state of IMAP clients.

I'm completely fed up with having basically zero choice in good IMAP
clients.

I have tried so many over the years, and the only one which HASN'T
screwed me over is Pine. I like it a lot, but one cannot conveniently
search multiple folders simultaneously.

This requirement is really important to me so I have to look
elsewhere. I thought of two possibilities:

1. Going to back to POP mail retrieval. This would make it easy to
search mail locally, but then I lose the advantages of IMAP. I
have been thinking about ways of synchronizing mbox files to remote
filesystems. But then I figured that I would probably just end up
reinventing IMAP, badly.

2. Installing a webmail server on my local host. A lot of work but
possibly worth it. I don't know if any webmail systems let the
user view multiple IMAP accounts simultaneously in the same way
that, for example, Thunderbird does.

If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be really happy to know them.

Alistair
