Open Source And /Or Freeware Mail Server Comparisons

I'm looking at implementing a Windows based email server at a charitable
(501c3) organization that I support. The goals are:
1. Pull email (POP3 or IMAP) from the hosted email service that now supports
the users and serve it out to the Outlook apps running on their workstations
from the internal server. This would enable centralized pre-screening for
spam and viruses before any "mal-mail" reaches the users' desktops.
2. Offer Internet based access to 'work' email from outside the network
similar to MS Outlook Web Access.
3. Offer a centralized calendaring function - preferably one that would
support their Outlook calendars.
I've taken quick peeks at Mercury and hMail. I find the hMail interface
more intuitive but really need to spend more time working with the products.
I currently have both installed on a Windows Server 2003 VM for evaluation.
Are there any decent articles or FAQ sheets that identify/compare/review the
different Open Source/Freeware mail server programs that run on Windows?
Is there an _informed_ source or two in this newsgroup that might lend
more advice than a blunt recommendation to Read the Frickin' Manual? I can
do that. Reading the manual, however, doesn't tell me anything about real
user experience related to long term use, administrative and support issues,
known shortcomings, real strengths, etc.
Thanks in advance.

I believe that Mercury Mail can be integrated into the AD, not familiar
with hMail.
Unfortunately, I do not have insight into the reviewes or other paper
that might help you come to a decision.
Primarily deal with Unix based mail servers (qmai) as they provide a
lower cost as well as an easier way to setup for redundancy as well as
growth.
