DON'T TOUCH THEM!! The database was infiltrated and all of these 851.7kb
files are viruses!!
They are not in the music/mp3 files, but in the programs and perhaps others.
I read about this on one of the mp3 news groups and checked Limewire out on
a friend's computer and there were a ton of these!!
If you stick to the mp3 files, you should not have a problem. It boggles me
that Limewire apparently has done nothing about this, but I have no idea
when it started.....well before Xmas IIRC.
WinMX has had its problems thanks to the US Gov't threats, and is rather
crippled. Kazaa is full of spyware. Don't know much about eMule. I have
heard that Ares is a good P2P proggie....but I don't download music anymore
so haven't tried it.

I can confirm this isn't a limewire forum. Your problem per say has
nothing to do with malware that I know of. Aside from the malware
you'll no doubt run into using limewire. Not to mention the possibility
of mpaa/riaa based lawsuits...
Why don't you do the smart thing, uninstall that garbage and save
yourself a headache? It wouldn't hurt if you learned to read before
posting either, This is alt.comp.virus, not
help.my.lame.ass.use.limewire.because.i'm.a.moron.
Thanks!

Actual viruses, or worms?

Aside from the riaa, no problems. :)

Why would you want to subject your ears to that low quality junk? Try
this instead:
www.utorrent.com
then google for peerguardian2, install it, update it
then goto www.mininova.org and begin leeching. Might I suggest hhi as a
search parameter? I think you will be pleased with the offerings. Full
length albums, no fuss, no mess... No bogus files either. :)

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe
To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close
Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }
NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.
C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.
You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.
When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Limewire itself is a problem upon installation, iirc.

keep meaning to try it... i suspect, however, that should i ever finally
manage to make the switch back to linux i won't be able to use
microtorrent (or most of the others available)...

mininova is good if you like to wait and see what people make available
(especially with the rss feed)... if you want to search, i'd suggest
isohunt...
