mail problem

I am using suse 9.0 professional kernel 2.4.21.215 -defaul-1 686
my isp is earthlink,and i use mozilla for mail.i try and download my mail
(mabey 25 messages) and after 4 or 5, I get the following
retry command did not succeed,mail server pop.earthlink.net responds unable
to open that message.
when i use the mail command all of my mail is there and able to be read.all
my mozilla settings appear ok.
any ideas as to what is causing this?
