myodbc-update from 2.50.37 to 3.51.12

myodbc-update from 2.50.37 to 3.51.12

am 14.02.2006 13:08:30 von Ronald Laszlob

Hello,

Our ODBC-Bridge-Computer have an old myodbc-driver version:2.50.37.
(This is very old). The current version on mysql-website is 3.51.12.

I have read on mysql-website, but I found no information
about uninstalling the old mysql-driver BEFORE I install the
new mysql-driver.
It's clear the new version-files called myodbc3S.dll, .....

But I think the old version called: myodbc2S.dll,...........

I don't found an uninstall-option in new
installation-programm of myodbc, too.
Now my question:
To become a clear installation of new odbc-driver-files, what
can I do?

Thank you for help forward!!

Br,
Ronald

Make sure you *test* this new version of MyODBC before deploying. If you
have no reason to upgrade other than "there's a new version out", then
you may be just creating problems for yourself. Read the mailing list
archives for details of problems.

I'm almost certain that you can leave MyODBC-2.x sitting around and
install MyODBC-3.x next to it. It will appear in your ODBC data sources
thingy as a separate driver, and they don't interfere with each other.
You set up a new DSN or whatever with the new driver, and then tell your
applications to use this new DSN.

If, however, you want to uninstall the old version, and you have the old
installer sitting around, I would do this:

- open the installer in an application like WinRar.
- make a list of all the files mentioned
- search for each of these files on your computer and delete them

I have NO idea what effect this will have on your system, but since
there is no uninstaller, this sounds reasonable to me. You may also have
to delete stuff from the registry. I would recommend against any of this
though. Leave the old one installed, and simply install the new one.
