You can't have Access tables linked into a MySQL database but you can
have MySQL tables linked into an Access database.

In other words when using Access as your client, you can work with
Access tables and linked MySQL tables in your queries, forms etc. I
often do this when migrating data.

Noob question :-)

Does MyODBC allow "linked" tables from an Access database (running on a
Windows box) in a MySQL database (running on a Mac box, or Linux if
necessary)

Thanks,
Nick.

Nick,

If I understand your question right, then yes, Access allows "linked tables"
but they're ODBC linked tables, so they get a different icon. When you
choose to link a table, under "type" choose ODBC database (should be at the
bottom of the filetype list) and then link to your DSN. Shout if you want
more info on making a user/system DSN (or want to know what one is).

Feel free to email me direct also.

Sorry if this got answered already, I'm on daily digest.

Regards,

Al

One thing though: If you've installed the Microsoft hotfix (870753) to fix
internet syncronization of Access dbases running under WinXP SP2 (it worked
fine with SP1 and Win98) you won't be able to link MySql tables from Access
until you uninstall the hotfix. Most people don't do both: internet syncronize
their Access dbases AND link to MySql tables, so this issue is unlikely to
surface, but if you need to do both: take note!

Bill

Here's info on the hotfix and where and what it applies to:
