I'm trying to setup a virtual directory (IIS 6.0) that maps to a network
folder, then view it as a WebDAV folder. I am able to create the virtual
directory, but the WebDAV part isn't working properly. When trying to open
the page as a web folder, the user is prompted that the page can't be opened
as a web folder and to open it in a default view. This results in the
standard file list view in IE. I am still given access to the files for
download, but it won't mount as a Web Folder. It will, however, work fully
when the virtual directory is pointing to a folder on the local server.
Any ideas as to why this isn't working?

Yes, the webserver has been trusted for delegation. I'm also now getting a
401.3 with every login I use except when under Basic Authentication. I have
the correct permissions set, any ideas?

Are you sure you are getting Kerberos authentication when you use IWA? You
can't delegate unless you get Kerberos.
You also need the file share to be accessed via Kerberos as well. A
failover to NTLM in either place will break delegation. That is the
two-edged sword of the negotiate protocol.

If you get 401.3 then *some* sort of authentication has happened, but the
resulting user identity does not have ACLs to the resource.
At this point you can use a tool like FileMon to determine which NT User is
accessing what resource.
Either you have resultant permissions (from UNC+FileSystem) that are
incorrect, or the wrong user is getting authenticated and used.

Sorry for the late response. I had sort of a "bingo" moment when I realized
WebDAV will work perfectly when using regular port 80, but dies when trying
to use ssl. Is this a general problem? I've tried 2 different servers using
ssl, and both returned the same "cannot open as a webfolder". Any ideas?

Support for WebDAV over SSL depends on the client.
IE/Office supports WebDAV over SSL. Windows Shell (i.e. Explorer) does not.
