Could this be a problem of IE6?
I am not sure, if this is te correct newsgroup, but I could not find one for
ie6, only for ie5.

I run Win2003 on VMWare and WinXP also on VMWare as guest-OS on a Notebook
with WinXPpro as Host.
Tomcat is running on Win2003, with a servlet-application as only context. I
use NTLMAuthentication for getting the userid from the client.

Starting the application from the Host-XP results in a error-message "server
or DNS cannot be found" with the following entries in the tomcat-access-log:
192.168.181.1 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:44:00 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.0" 401 -
192.168.181.1 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:44:00 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.0" 401 3

Starting the application from the Guest-XP works fine and I find the
following entries in the tomcat-access-log:
192.168.181.130 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:45:22 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.1"
401 -
192.168.181.130 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:45:22 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.1"
401 3
192.168.181.130 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:45:22 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.1"
200 1406

Starting the application on the Host-XP in Firefox works also fine, but I am
prompted for userid and password. After typing this into the msgbox,
everythin works fine and I find the following entries in the
tomcat-access-log:
192.168.181.1 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:47:10 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.1" 401 -
192.168.181.1 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:47:15 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.1" 401 3
192.168.181.1 - - [07/Mar/2006:13:47:15 +0100] "GET /cnt/srvl HTTP/1.1" 200
1406

I also can start the application on the Win2003 as a localhost.
I also can start an ASP-Application running under IIS on the Win2003 from IE
on the Host-WinXP, and from all the other machines, so I guess, it could be
any property set in the ie6?

The application works as well in live environment. I also have reinstalled
the Host-XP on my notebook with no positive effect.
The only part that does not work is starting the servlet-application from IE
on the Host-WinXP ;-(((

Debugging the servlet with eclipse remote debugging brings the following
result:
after the first 401 from the server, the client sends the type-1-message.
The server then sends back the type-2-challenge-message.
After this the client does not come back but presents the error-message
within the browser.
The option "enable/activate integrated windows authentication" is checked
and "automatic logon in intranet zone" is also checked in my ie6.

I really don't have any idea, what I could do!
Please help me!
Georg

Has the Host's copy of IE been configured to use HTTP/1.1? (Tools ->
Internet Options -> Advanced)?

Also, is the host configured to use a proxy server (it doesn't appear to be,
but you might have one). If so, bypass the proxy server for access to the
website: NTLM doesn't work through proxies. It also requires the use of HTTP
Keep-Alives (which is why I asked the first question about whether HTTP/1.1
is enabled).

Cheers
Ken
