HICSS conferences are devoted to advances in the information, computer, and
system sciences, and encompass developments in both theory and practice.
Papers may be theoretical, conceptual, tutorial or descriptive in nature.
Submissions undergo a double-blind peer referee process and those selected
for presentation will be published in the Conference Proceedings.
Additional detail may be found on HICSS primary web site:

This mini-track addresses issues related to anticipating, detecting,
mitigating and preventing computer-based threats and attacks. The
pervasiveness of computer networks in our economic system has increased our
vulnerability. In response, organizations have increased the attention paid
to computer-based threats to their information, systems, and processes.
Governments have also recognized information security as a critical
component of our national and international infrastructures, as well as its
integral role for financial reporting and regulation. These constituencies
are combining technical, managerial, forensics, regulation, law enforcement,
and social engineering to combat a difficult and growing problem. In
addition, there has been increasing concern about emergent risks that occur
because of computer-enabled automation. These risks represent changes to
the likelihood of operational failure from intentional changes in
operations, and may result in malicious attack or inadvertent disruption. An
additional perspective is the trend toward eRemote and eOperations, implying
that compromises of information security might threaten Health, Safety and
Environment.
There is a need to develop and share research about this work: What are
organizations doing, what are they not doing, what are the results, and why
these outcomes occur. This mini-track follows a successful mini-track
program at HICSS-39, and it provides IS/IT researchers a collaborative forum
to share their research and insights. We hope to attract scholars from a
wide set of disciplines to build theory, exchange insights, and improve
research techniques.
Papers that address improving the security, reliability or survivability of
computer-reliant organizations from these threats through technical or
behavioral change are encouraged. Applications of simulation studies,
case-based research, and other quantitative and qualitative methods are
welcome.
Some possible topics include, but are not limited to:
· Attack prevention, detection and response
· Analysis of vulnerabilities
· Compliance with security measures
· Identifying modes of misuse
· Applications of access policies
· Managerial and financial aspects of cyber-attacks
· Analysis of known and unknown modes of attack
· Separating anomalous from routine behavior
· Adapting outsider-based threat prevention to insider risks
· Modeling risks and approaches to mitigation, reliability,
survivability and business continuity
· Teaching and training security and business managers about the
risks of cyber-threats to their organization
· Threats to Health, Safety and Environment in eRemote/eOperations

IMPORTANT DEADLINES
Abstracts Authors are encouraged to contact
Minitrack Chairs for guidance and indication of appropriate content.
Manuscripts are not accepted based on abstracts. Full manuscripts must be
submitted by June 15.
June 15 Authors submit full manuscripts
to the Peer Review System, following Author Instructions found on the HICSS
web site (www.hicss.hawaii.edu). All manuscripts will be submitted in double
column publication format and limited to 10 pages including diagrams and
references. Since manuscripts will undergo a double-blind review, author
names and affiliations must not be included on the original manuscript. This
information will be collected later through the system.
August 15 Acceptance notices are sent to
Authors via the Peer Review System.
September 15 Authors submit Final Version of
accepted papers following submission instructions on the Peer Review System
web site. At least one author of each paper must register by this date with
specific plans to attend the conference to present the paper. Early
Registration fee applies. (General Registration fee applies Sept 16-Dec
15.)
December 1 Deadline to guarantee your hotel
room reservation at conference rate.
December 15 Deadline to receive conference
registration refund. Late registration fee applies.
