problem with configuration

problem with configuration

am 11.06.2006 21:01:23 von john ma

Hello,

I have been long a MS SQL server user, but I want to
learn something from MySQL and PHP. So I tried to
install PHP and MySQL to my box (Windows 2000 NT
server).

However, I couldn’t configure MySQL after I run
installation wizard successfully. Either version
MySQL 4.1 or MySQL5.0 which I downloaded from
http://dev.MySQL.com/downloads won’t work on my box.
When I tried to configure, it stopped each time at the
step: Apply security setting. The error message is:
The security settings could not be applied to the
database because the connection has failed with the
following error: Error Nr. 1045 Access denied for user
‘root’ @ ‘localhost’ (using password: YES).

The rest error message suggested me to check firewall
on my box to open the connection, but I don’t think I
have a firewall on my box. I do have an IIS and MS
SQL server running on. There is a port option step
during the configuration process, it suggested port
3306, but I am not sure I have such a port available.
There is only a port 80 for TCP/IP which I can found
under Administrator/IIS management.

I tried more then 10 times installing, uninstalling,
configuring and re-configuring, but no luck. I am
wondering if I should install connector/ODBC to solve
this problem.

I am stuck. I do appreciate if anybody has a clue for
this issue.

Thanks a lot!

John from Saskatoon, Canada

Drop the evil .msi wizard, download the noinstall zipped archive set
and follow instructions at:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/windows-install-archi ve.html

Follow it and report back.
