Exim "sender verification"

Can anyone please tell me what criteria are used for Exim's "sender
verification"? Does it VRFY the Mail From: identity to the originating
client MTA? Does it do a lookup of the connecting IP address and expect
domain similarities with the Mail From: domain or the {HELO, EHLO}? Or
something else?
