Can I troubleshoot SMTP & authentication with Telnet?
am 22.07.2006 08:34:50 von lghtslpr
I have an AOL email account which is supposed to be able to send email
through the stmp daemon at smtp.aol.com, port 587, but it's not
working. I'm getting "550 ACCESS DENIED". I wonder if it's my mail
client (Outlook Express 6), so I'd like to try to telnet to the server
and manually send a message. Is that possible, if the server requires
authentication? I know how to do it if it's not authenticated. How do I
give it my login and password?
Thanks.

It's easier than that. But I don't download articles from
google groups or that don't have a name in the From header.
Or help the people doing it.
Because they are almost always trolls, being nice _now_ under
_this alias_, because they want help.
And because they obviously don't want us to know what other
things they post, and where, I have to assume that I wouldn't
help them if I knew and so I won't help them anyway.
Note: I will not be downloading any articles on this thread.

Boo.

You've got all the attention you wanted, Beavis, but you're still not happy.
