Spam filtering for Exchange

Spam filtering for Exchange

am 23.08.2006 01:10:04 von Larry Mehl

Hello --

I am a newbie regarding Exchange and spam filtering applications for it.

A client with a 3-station network asked me to help them find a
replacement for Postini. The application can be commercial, open
source, shareware, or freeware.

Can anyone suggest a mail filtering app for Exchange with which they
have been satisfied?

Thanks for any help.

Any solution you pick will require someone to keep the filters up to
date or the product would have to have a subscription to get new spam
patterns. The cost might increase which I doubt is what your clients
are thinking.

Check postini's compettitors or firms that provide similar service for a
lower price.

Hook up an embedded e-mail server in front of it configured to only
spam filter the incoming mail.

All you have to do is to add the domain name, enter the Exchange's
internal IP as the destination to send the mails, and point your
NAT/firewall port 25 to the embedded e-mali server. You can get
trickier by also configuring additional settings but that's optional.

The other poster is right that a good spam filter needs periodical
updates. However, the EES downloads those updates automatically in
background and the best part of it is that there are no costs for this
service. The manufacturer finances the filter maintenance through the
ongoing sales.

Asuming you are in the US, you can get it here:

Should you have any questions left, feel free to contact me either
here or off list.

Markus

PS: I'm the developper of this device, but I do not take any profit
from ongoing sales of it alas I'm obviousely biased.

Exchange 2003 has a build-in spamfilter.
