Hello
This is a follow up to the Security Vulnerability Report I sent on May
29/06 regarding the brand of load balancer that Microsoft uses on MSN
services. The Netcraft "Whats that site running?" feature has
identified F5 Big-IP as being the operating system for Hotmail. As I
indicated in the vulnerability report, it is actually a load balancer.
On large web pages, load balancers don't usually show up.
Following, is a list of MSN websites that ID themselves to Netcraft
as having the F5 Big-IP operating:
15 by104fd.bay104.hotmail.msn.com 168 216 216 F5 Big-IP
Microsoft-IIS/6.0
17 by106fd.bay106.hotmail.msn.com 151 195 195 F5 Big-IP
Microsoft-IIS/6.0
Also, here is the direct link to the Netcraft site listing servers and
operating systems corresponding to MSN, including configuration data:
http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/hosted?netname=MICROSOFT-1BLK, 65.52.0.0,65.55.255.255
According to the reply I received from Microsoft Security Research
Centre, they said they would forward the information I sent to the MSN
Group, however, I noticed that F5 Big-IP was showing up on the Netcraft
list as being attached to Hotmail servers such as I mentioned above.
If you require

If this is supposed to be a correct configuration for your network, my
apologies. If not, I am just letting you know.
Thanks
